Can you lose 50 pounds with liposuction?

BMI is not an indication of body fat percentage because it cannot differentiate between muscle and fat. However, it provides a reasonable starting point for many people. This treatment can shed up to 11 pounds of fat if you have a fairly high body mass index (BMI). On the other hand, if you have a fairly low BMI, you can't shed 11 pounds of fat.

You also won't be able to shed as much fat if you have a high BMI due to muscle rather than fat.

Liposuction

is a procedure that directly removes fat from the body. It results in weight loss, but you'll notice a loss in inches, even more so. You'll lose weight, but the best way to judge your results is by how you look, how your clothes fit, and the number that appears on the measuring tape, not the scale. That said, most patients lose an average of 5 pounds of fat with this procedure.

I see several new patients a year who are 50, 75 and even 100 pounds overweight and they told me that liposuction is their solution. While liposuction doesn't result in weight loss, it does create a slimmer, smoother, and more contoured body shape. Small incisions are made in the target area, where a surgeon inserts a narrow tube and manipulates it to distribute and suck fat cells. Liposuction reduces fat cells in the treatment area and, over time, the skin conforms to new contours to create a slimmer body shape.

A different approach has generated enthusiasm with the early use of liposuction as an adjuvant, along with diet and exercise. The experience in high-volume fat extractions, limited by each state's individual legal volume guidelines, has evolved as liposuction practices expanded. Each liposuction can result in the removal of up to 4000 to 5000 cc of fat. It's not uncommon for some patients to lose 20 to 30 pounds after liposuction while maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Fat removal procedures are designed to sculpt the bulging and persistent areas that remain after exercise and weight control. While liposuction is not a weight-loss method, the extracted fat cells disappear forever. No more fat cells are produced after puberty, but those you already have swell up if you consume more calories than your body needs per day. Eliminating fat will reduce body weight depending on the weight of the fat extracted.

At most, 5 liters (similar to a quarter of a gallon) of fat can be removed if a person is larger. Extracting more than 5 liters in one session is not considered safe. You should focus on the shape you are trying to achieve and not on the amount of pounds of fat you will lose with liposuction. You may need a smaller blouse or pants, depending on your body fat distribution and where they take them off.

The maximum amount of fat that can be safely removed with liposuction is between six and eight pounds (three to four liters). An increase in the volume of fat removal increases the risk of complications. Several areas of the body can be treated as long as you understand that this treatment is intended to tighten and tone the body and not to help you lose weight. If the patient needs to remove more fat than six to eight pounds, it is prudent to undergo liposuction in stages with an interval of three to four months.

So how much weight loss can you lose with liposuction anyway? It's still a widespread belief that weight loss has a multifaceted solution. With laser liposuction, you can melt those last few pounds and inches and get the results you're looking for. A common question that patients ask surgeons is how much fat they can expect to lose with liposuction surgery. If the patient's goal is to lose weight, liposuction is not an appropriate procedure for him.
